Reflections from 2023 and Wishes for a Happy New Year

2023 sure was a doozy. I was adjacent or witness to more death—both literal and metaphorical—than any other year I can remember. A number of people in my broader circle, as well as a dear friend and mentor, passed on to the next dimension. I was also encouraged by circumstance and compelled by a most powerful intuition, to let die some deeply entrenched beliefs I’ve long held about my identity. But as I grow older, I find myself leaning into this cycle—death, rebirth, and rebuilding—with increasing peace and grace, ever more certain of its beauty and fundamental nature.

On the upside and without caveat, I experienced myriad profound highs and abundance in the form of unforeseen adventures, and new and deepening relationships. Of course, the value of said adventures and relationships is always proportional to the authenticity and buy-in of the participants. Whether in my personal life, through music, skiing, or the various organizations I have the pleasure of being a part of, there was never a dull moment; I have some special humans in my orbit, for whom I’m very grateful.

Many of the things I strove for in 2023 almost worked out, but ultimately fell short, leaving me feeling frustrated and defeated. And that’s okay. I also commonly found myself the recipient of unconditional love and incredible generosity, often when I needed it most and was least expecting it.

I’ve got a ton of new music and content I’ll be putting out this year that I can’t wait for you all to experience! Additionally, I’ve set out on some new and exciting endeavors that would’ve seemed totally ridiculous to me at this time last year—and I couldn’t be more excited about them.

2024 contains the makings of what promises to be a pivotal year for humankind; between two major wars, countless regional conflicts, palpable political and social tension, unprecedented god-like advances in AI, and myriad major political elections forthcoming around the globe, the future often feels particularly unsettling. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to be able to reflect on the higher-order details of life, in peace, safety, and comfort; a privilege unimaginable to so many beings on the planet today, whose entire existence is a series of emergencies.

I feel so fortunate to have the best friends and family one could hope for, as well as no shortage of interesting and fulfilling reasons to be fully alive each and every day. I wish you and yours adventure, growth, good health, and exactly what you need cosmically this year.

Much love,

Eric
