Podcast - Conversations for Convergence

Born and raised in Oconomowoc Wisconsin, Andersen’s musical adventure began at the age of ten on the viola. As a member of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, he had the good fortune of experiencing the brilliance of composers like Beethoven, Bach, and Grieg, which would provide a strong foundation for, and heavily influence his future songwriting. At 14 he discovered piano pop rockers, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, and Elton John, and his life changed forever. It wasn’t long before Eric began penning his own songs, while incessantly devouring the music of Pink Floyd, Genesis, The Beatles, Kostia, Bruce Hornsby, Dave Mathews, and so many others. “During high school I’d ditch class and spend hours in the choir room playing the piano and learning songs. My friends thought I was crazy. I was obsessed,” says Andersen.

In 2008, in a bizarre turn of events Eric found himself en route to Reno, NV on a whim to attend the University of Nevada, where he competed as a member of the Alpine Ski Team. Before too long, Andersen’s devotion to music became all-encompassing and he found himself immersed in a full-time career in music, quickly gaining a loyal local and regional following. Around that time, he met many of the people who would become life-long friends and musical collaborators. In 2009, he joined The Novelists as co-lead singer and songwriter and began a decade dominated by touring, songwriting, and recording projects. Since then, his career has continued to evolve as a solo artist, member of The Novelists, TV music songwriter, guest singer, and session musician, credited on myriad projects nationally and internationally.

Andersen is best known for his catchy, melodic, and lyrically driven songs. To quote singer-songwriter Kate Cotter, “Andersen’s powerful tenor voice is immediately captivating. His grasp of technique, coupled with the nuance of raw emotion, rivals the best I’ve heard among any artist in the industry.” While Andersen’s music draws from themes of self-discovery, unwavering faith in the human spirit, and overcoming adversity, his deadpan comedic stage presence never fails to draw a laugh from the audience.

When Eric isn’t on tour or producing music, he performs regularly throughout the greater Reno/Tahoe area as a solo artist and in various ensembles, with singer-songwriters, Joel Ackerson (The Novelists Duo/Andersen Ackerson, AMA5), Whitney Myer (AMA5), Kate Cotter, and others. He’s also an occasional guest lead vocalist with the Daryl Stuermer Band (of Genesis and Phil Collins Band).

In 2020, Andersen was appointed to the Reno Arts & Culture Commission where he served two terms. He’s also serves on the boards of the Nevada Coalition for Psychedelic Medicines and the Nevada Ski Team Boosters.

** Eric is available to perform for private events as a soloist or as a member of a variety of other ensembles. **
